Is God a Sports Fan?: The Relationship between Sports and Faith

iROC - Investigating Research on Campus

Please be with us September 6th when Robert P. Miller, Division of Robert MillerPhilosophy and Religious Studies, presents Is God a Sports Fan?: The Relationship between Sports and Faith.

What is the history of the relationship between faith and sports? This presentation will reflect upon the fundamental theological principles that answer the question how we may see God in all things....including sports. The basis for this discussion is an understanding of leisure, sabbath, the principle of sacramentality, and virtue.

Robert P. Miller is Associate Professor of Religion in MSMC's Division of Philosophy and Religious Studies. Dr. Miller holds degrees in Philosophy, Theology, and a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from the Catholic University of America. He is a Senior Fellow of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology and a board member for the Ecumenical Society of the Blessed Virgin Mary - USA. His doctoral dissertation "Ti emoi kai soi: John 2:4a, Rebuke or Expression of Mutual Concern," is a philological and contextual study of the Hebrew idiom with which Jesus responds to his mother at the wedding at Cana.

Is God a Sports Fan?: The Relationship between Sports and Faith will take place in Kaplan Library Room 218 of the Dominican Center. This event has been approved FYE credit as College Connection. All are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!
