Looking Back at the Jazz Age: A Literary and Cultural Excursion

iROC - Investigating Research on Campus

Please be with us Monday, February 27th when Nancy Von Rosk, Division of Arts and Letters, presents Looking Back at the Jazz Age: A Literary and Cultural Excursion

From Britain’s Downton Abbey and Dancing on the Edge, to Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris and Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, the Jazz Age’s presence in recent popular culture has been striking and pervasive. Professor Von Rosk will talk about our culture’s fascination with the “roaring twenties” as well as some of the recent scholarship on the Jazz Age, including her edited collection Looking Back at the Jazz Age: New Essays on the Literature and Legacy of an Iconic Decade, published in September, 2016.

Nancy Von Rosk is an Associate Professor of English at MSMC, and the faculty advisor to the college’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the National English Honor Society. She teaches a range of courses including the American Survey, Women Writers, Foundations of Literary Studies and the Senior Capstone Seminar. Her publications on Edith Wharton, and other American writers including Willa Cather, Mark Twain and Abraham Cahan have appeared in essay collections and the journals Studies in the Novel, Journal of Transnational American Studies, Journal of the Short Story in English and Prospects: An Annual of American Cultural Studies.

Looking Back at the Jazz Age will take place February 27th at 12 p.m. in the DC Cafe. This event has been approved for College Connection FYE credit, but students at all levels are welcome. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!
