KAPLAN FAMILY LIBRARY 5TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!
The Book Within the Book in Medieval Illumination
Gospel Illumination from the 5th-15th Centuries
VIEW ALL SEVEN VOLUMES OF THE SAINT JOHN'S BIBLE BEGINNING AT 6 PM.
Please be with us on January 31st when James Finn Cotter presents
The Book Within the Book in Medieval Illumination. This presentation traces the book as a symbol of Christ in ancient Gospel manuscripts. Attention is also given to the four evangelists, authors like St. Jerome who translated the Bible, and the Virgin Mary. An array of 24 gorgeous images will be shown in the course of the talk. This thousand-year history of the Gospel illumination from the fifth to fifteenth century will conclude with the opportunity for audience members to view and interact with The Saint John's Bible.
James Finn Cotter is Professor of English in the Division of Arts and Letters at Mount Saint Mary College. He is an expert on illuminated manuscripts and recently donated a large collection of books on this topic to Kaplan Library.
