The CMA Gallery pleased to bring a unique exhibition of regional commercial artist talent together for 8 A Visual Communication Graphic Design Show. Exhibiting in all genres of Visual Communication the show examines a wide range of design work and visual styles, showcasing original specimens along with reproductions and one-off pieces in posters, music, typography, editorial, marketing and so much more.

Exhibitor Biographies:

Angela Lian is a Chinese and Taiwanese-American multidisciplinary artist and designer based in the Hudson Valley. She’s interested in exploring both corporeal and metaphysical embodiments of pain, memory, and ecology through movement, video art, and analog techniques. She is currently a graphic designer and video artist at BAGGU, and her work has been recognized by It’s Nice That, TYPE01, and Canvas Rebel.

Philippe Safire is a French-Armenian artist (living and working in the Hudson Valley) and an Art Director for Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. Recent projects include “SPELL”, an award-winning short film that received international recognition, and “nightcolors”, a public art installation in Beacon, New York. His art has been exhibited at LACDA, ArtsWestchester Gallery, REVERSE Gallery, BeaconArts, Garrison Art Center, New York University, CMA Gallery and the Center for the Digital Arts, among other places. Recent commissions include BeaconArts and ArtsWestchester. Safire’s work has been featured in VICE Magazine + Intel’s The Creators Project, The Ascent, Faena Sphere, ArtSlant, BX200 The Bronx Visual Artist Database, Make: Magazine, “Manifeste des Arts Immersifs”, and the Brooklyn Art Project.

Jesse Ragan is a typeface designer and partner at XYZ Type. He specializes in making fonts from scratch, creating lettering for logotypes, and helping people understand how letterforms tick. In his work for clients like Rolling Stone, Dartmouth College, and the New York Public Library, he solves the puzzle of each assignment with systematic thinking and strategic historical references. Jesse studied graphic design at Rhode Island School of Design. After interning at Font Bureau, he began his career at Hoefler & Frere-Jones, where he helped create the typeface Gotham. He served on AIGA NY’s board of directors and co-founded Type@Cooper, the postgraduate program at Cooper Union where he taught typeface design for four years. Jesse now lives in Beacon, New York.

Brock Daves “Originally from Newnan, GA, Brock’s creative journey spans multiple disciplines before arriving at graphic design. A largely self-taught creative, he later refined his process through UX/UI studies at General Assembly and graphic design training at Shillington Education. Now living in the Hudson Valley, he develops freelance work that pushes conceptual boundaries while staying rooted in the unique voice of each client.”

Casey Morris is a director, designer, and marketing strategist based in Highland. After studying theater at SUNY New Paltz, she taught herself graphic design through a series of marketing roles. Currently, she is a Design & Marketing Strategist at KDD Marketing in Kingston, where her work spans from social media content and digital advertising to print and website design. Previously, as the Graphic Designer at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, she designed a new visual identity system for the organization. She founded her own brand identity and website studio, Callback Design, in 2020. Casey has directed plays, developmental readings, and original interactive theater pieces throughout the Hudson Valley, and her work most recently appeared in the Winter 2026 Queens Short Play Festival.

Jason C. Otero and Emily Garcia-Otero are co-founders of Art & Anthropology Press, a Newburgh, NY–based design studio and publishing imprint. Their work spans branding, publication design, and editorial systems, built on a foundation of typography, identity, and design thinking. They collaborate with artists, collectors, and cultural and educational organizations to shape layered content into clear, resonant visual narratives.

8 A Visual Communication Graphic Design Show opens on March 26th and runs through May 12th. The reception and gallery are free and open to the public. The gallery is located on the first floor of Aquinas Hall on campus. Contact cma-gallery@msmc.edu for more information.
