About the Teacher:

Mikayla Pileggi is a graduate of Mount Saint Mary College, receiving a BA in Mathematics and an MS in Adolescent Education and Special Education. At MSMC she was awarded Aquinas scholar, National Mathematics Honor Society, and National Honor Society. This is her second year teaching at Bishop Dunn Memorial School. Ms. Pileggi was our AIS Math teacher during the prior school year. She in continuing her love of Volleyball, as she is also coaching modified Volleyball as well!

Curriculum:

  • Next Generation- 7th Grade Mathematics by eMATHinstruction
    • A textbook will not be used within the classroom. Each lesson and corresponding homework will be provided to the students and is to be placed in their binder. 

Course Description:

Welcome to 7th grade Mathematics! This year the students will be working on operations with signed numbers, proportional relationships, percentages, linear expressions, linear equations and inequalities, statistics, probability, and geometry. Grade 7 mathematics is arranged chronologically, by building upon each topic and building on their prior knowledge from 6th grade mathematics.

Course Expectations and Polices:

Students in 7th grade mathematics are expected to develop a deeper understanding of previous mathematical concepts, begin the process of extending their knowledge to prepare for the following years of math classes, and to keep up with assignments. Students are expected to come to class prepared, to complete assignments honestly and on time, follow classroom procedures, and to be respectful.

Grade 8 mathematics is arranged chronologically, by building upon each topic and building on their prior knowledge from 7th grade mathematics.

Students in 8th grade mathematics are expected to develop a deeper understanding of previous mathematical concepts, begin the process of extending their knowledge to prepare for the following years of math classes, and to keep up with assignments. Students are expected to come to class prepared, to complete assignments honestly and on time, follow classroom procedures, and to be respectful.

Course Description:

Welcome to Algebra 1! This year the students will be working on linear equations and inequalities, functions, linear functions, linear systems, exponential algebra and functions, polynomials, quadratic functions, roots and irrational numbers, functions and their transformations, and statistics. Algebra 1 is arranged chronologically, by building upon each topic and building on their prior knowledge from 7th grade mathematics, only focusing on Algebraic topics.

*Students in Algebra 1 will be taking the NYS Algebra 1 Regents exam in June of 2024.*
