Name: Megan Morrissey
Title: Associate Director of Student Success
How long have you been at the Mount? I’m in my 8th year working professionally at MSMC (but I was a student here from 2006-2010!)

What is your favorite part of your job/being at the Mount?
My favorite part about being at the Mount are my students. I love those moments when (pre-COVID), a student would just drop into my office for a visit in between classes and we’d end up talking about nothing and everything at the same time. The students at the Mount never fail to make me laugh and I always appreciate it!

What would your biggest piece of advice be to an incoming student?
My biggest piece of advice for incoming students is actually one that I got about half way through my freshman year. I was having a hard time finding my place on campus and I felt really lonely. An upperclassman at the time told me “No one is going to hand you a college experience, you have to go out there and find it for yourself." Hearing this really forced me to take a look at what I was and wasn’t doing to TRY to acclimate to college. Once I reflected on this, I stopped going home every weekend, joined a couple of clubs and I was able to find an incredible group of friends (that are still my best friends today!).

What is your go-to karaoke song?
Go to Karaoke song is “No Scrubs” by TLC. I can sing it in a trio (only if I can sign the Chili part) or as a solo.

Do you think you can get to know a person better by listening to the music they like? Why or why not?
I think you can get to know someone based off of the music they enjoy. I believe that music can let the world hear your inner monologue through songs. So many times, I can’t quite put into words or properly express how I’m feeling and then I put on a good playlist and I’m able to say “Yup, that’s it. That’s what I mean.”

Can you pick a few songs from your playlist and tell us why they’re on there?

  • Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac: In 5th grade, I became obsessed with all things 1970s and my cousin introduced me to Fleetwood Mac. The Rumors album is one of the best that’s ever been produced and I’ll debate anyone on that fact.

  • Cheap Thrills (ft. Sean Paul) - Sia: This song never fails to put a smile on my face. It reminds me of one of my best friends, Jenn. This is most definitely her song and anytime it comes on, no matter where we are, she will get up and dance.
  • My Shot - Hamilton: I am a big Broadway nerd and this is the first cast album I ever got, listened to and memorized before I even saw the show (mostly because getting tickets to this show was insane). When I need a little motivation, I blast this song and get to work.
  • How Far I'll Go (Moana Soundtrack) - Auli’I Cravalho: Disney is one of my love languages. This song always seems to come on in the exact right time when I’m on a run; when I’m tired and thinking about stopping, I hear this song come through my headphones and I get the jolt of adrenaline I need!
