Students moving into dorm

A week from today, you will be heading off to your first classes and embarking on the journey of a lifetime. We asked some of our Mount students what they wish they had known when they were freshmen, and here’s what they told us:

Danielle Petricca, Sophomore – “Get to know your professors!! So many of the professors here are willing to do so much for their students, and creating a good relationship with your professors will only help you. I have many good relationships with my professors and it’s made my time here so much better than it would’ve been if I didn’t do so.”

Alex Perlak, Sophomore – “Every Mount freshman should know that there are many components to college life itself. There is the social aspect, academic, and leisure. You should try to balance these to make the best out of your freshman year. But remember, college is about learning, so don’t slack on your academics…every freshman should know that there are many resources you have offered to you. There are academic coaches to help you with anything you need, tutoring, the Writing Center, and so much more. Don’t be afraid to seek help when you start to need it.”

Nicole Laghezza, Junior – “Step out of your comfort zone and try new things, make the most of your college experience, and don’t be afraid (everyone feels the same; you’re not alone!).”

Christina Mistretta, Junior – “Don’t be afraid to get lost; try something new; if there is something you want to do, ask about it – if we don’t have it yet, you can start it.”

Amanda Greenwood, Junior – “Every freshman should come to college, not only with school and dorm supplies, but an open mind. Some of the best friends I’ve made here I would’ve been too nervous to even talk to in high school! Do things you’ve never done before, start conversations, and take electives that strike your interest!”

Ashley Lane, Senior – “Every Mount Freshman needs to know that they should absolutely get involved on campus! Especially in the first few weeks where it takes some adjustment being away from home, getting involved on campus with clubs really helps to build friendships and ease the transition from high school to college.”

Megan Torpey, Senior – “Don’t over pack. I promise you don’t need a whole bin full of snacks! Also, get involved the first week; it will be so much easier to make friends this way.”

Men’s Baseball Team – “Get to know your academic coaches and advisors (they are a TON of help). Use the Writing Center and Career Center, and take advantage of work study opportunities. Find time to study and have fun!”

So, are you ready to make your mark on the Mount campus? You only have to wait one more week. We’ll see you then.
