Eight Mount Saint Mary College students received the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Chapel of the Most Holy Rosary on Sunday, April 7.

The Most Rev. Dominick J. Lagonegro celebrated the Mass with Interim Mount President and Campus Chaplain Fr. Gregoire Fluet.

The confirmed students stood before their family, friends, and the college community to affirm their faith and commitment to their Catholic beliefs.

The students were Melanie Morales of Astoria, N.Y.; Akasha Cervantes of Marlboro, N.Y.; Naomi Daniela Vargas Carbajal of Newburgh, N.Y.; Austen Torres of New Windsor, N.Y.; Christina Merola of Beacon, N.Y.; Bianca Cogoni of Staatsburg, N.Y.; Eliza Saide-Cox of Hartland, Wis.; and Michael Banovic of Montvale, N.J.

Confirmation represented a stronger bond between Torres and his faith, he said: “I wanted to get confirmed to be closer to God, as I feel that is the only way to have a stabilized life in this world.”

Similarly, Cogoni conveyed her excitement about restating her Catholic identity: “I have always been Catholic but was pulled out of Sunday school too early,” she said.

Both students praised Fr. Fluet’s support and guidance throughout their journey.

“Fr. Greg was amazing in the process,” Cogoni said.

Torres added, “Fr. Greg helped me throughout the whole process by being available for any questions.”
