If you’re like me, all your friends go back to their hometowns during summer, winter, or spring break. I’m left hours from my best friends. However, there are plenty of ways to remedy this. You don’t always have to live down the hall from your friends to stay connected with them.

  1. Have a Zoom conference with your friends:
I know it sounds weird. Zoom is used for work conferences or school. But my sisters and I all live in different states and we Zoom conference because there are too many of us to Face-time. My friends even take workout classes on Zoom. You can all join a Zoom class and virtually exercise together!
  2. Netflix Party:
Netflix has a feature that you can live watch anything with your friends. Just go to Google and type ‘Netflix Party” in the search bar and it should be the first result. There is even a live chat on the screen so you and your friends can make your own commentary. This option is paired well with a favorite homemade snack and a fort.
  3. Pen Pals:
Let’s be honest, when is the last time you sent or received any snail mail? Exactly. I think this generation takes tangible evidence of friendship for granted. Every message is saved on our phones and we don’t have anything physical to show for the relationships we’ve cultivated. I know I would be stoked to get a letter in the mail.
  4. Make a playlist together:
Spotify has an option to make a public playlist and your friends can add songs to it. You can all contribute to the playlist and have a virtual jam session!
  5. Try cooking together:
Facetime your friend and have them read a recipe to you. You can see how the recipe turns out with their instructions only!
  6. Puzzles:
Buy the same puzzle as your friend and see who can complete it first. You can do this with any number of games or activities.
  7. Swap Daily Routines:
My friend and I did this once. We totally swapped schedules and routines. I did her skincare, hair routine, shower schedule, etc. It’s a fun way to get to know each other even better. Literally spend a day in their point-of-view.

On break you may not be on the same floor or in the same building as your BFFs, but that doesn’t mean you have to truly be away from them. These times apart are a great opportunity to strengthen friendships. Once graduation comes, you may not see them daily or even monthly, but these tips are a great way to keep in touch.

Come say hello...
