Skills, Knowledge, and Values that Spark Success
How does a liberal arts core spark success? By combining a strong foundation across multiple fields of study with the ability to continue learning and growing long after you earn your degree.
The Mount’s Liberal Arts Core is designed to develop the whole person through a common set of essential courses that all students choose from. These courses complement your academic program studies, helping you develop skills, knowledge, and values that will serve you throughout your life.

Core courses build communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and technological skills – essential components for professional and personal pursuits after graduation. |
Students acquire and integrate knowledge of history, math, literature, philosophy, religion, science, technology, and more. |
Students study value systems, develop ethical judgment and sound reasoning, and experience civic engagement and service learning. |
A strong foundation in the liberal arts develops well-rounded citizens with the breadth of knowledge, skills, and values that employers prize. An understanding of culture, history, and human behavior is enhanced by strong communications and an ethical framework for decision making.
The Liberal Arts Core is augmented by the First Year Experience program, which brings together first year students for connections and skill building to support success in college.
