The Mid-Hudson Reading Council (MHRC) recently honored Fallon Alsabri, a Mount Saint Mary College graduate student, with a scholarship for her dedication to the teaching profession.

Alsabri stood out among many talented applicants due to her commitment to gaining practical experience in diverse educational settings. Her dedication to supporting diverse learners was evident through her work at a camp for special needs children and tutoring students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

In addition to the Mid-Hudson Reading Council Scholarship being awarded to Alsabri, the meeting also featured a talk by Cecilia Dos Santos, an Instructor of Education at the Mount, titled “Enhancing Our ELLs Connection to Text Through Gizmos and Gadgets.”

Dos Santos focused on ways for primary and intermediate students to foster meaningful connections to text, discussing scaffolding strategies for English Language Learners (ELLs), and exploring group activity ideas.

In addition to her teaching role at the Mount, Dos Santos is a New York State certified educator in Elementary Education and English as a Second Language (K-12).
