Students use cutting-edge Bloomberg Terminals at the new Joseph F. Maloney Memorial Investment Lab at Mount Saint Mary College.

Mount Saint Mary College is proud to announce the opening of the Joseph F. Maloney Memorial Investment Lab, featuring Bloomberg Terminals, located in the School of Business.

The lab is named in memory of Joseph F. Maloney III, a longtime friend and supporter of the college who passed away in October of 2022. It’s being funded through a gift to the college from his wife and former Mount trustee, Susan Maloney.

The investment lab features 12 Bloomberg Terminals and a ticker display. Mount Business students – especially those studying Finance – now enjoy hands-on, real-world experience in trading and investment analysis.

“I am absolutely delighted to provide these Terminals for Mount Saint Mary College,” said Susan. “Joe had such a deep love for following the stock market. I can still picture him completely engrossed in the ticker! With this gift, I have the joy of passing on Joe’s passion for finance, banking, and the market to Mount business students for years to come.”

Bloomberg Terminals provide real-time and historical data, market moving news and analytics to help leading business and financial professionals worldwide make better informed investment decisions. Bloomberg Terminals also feature connectivity to trading platforms for every asset class, research and a global system to communicate securely and reliably.

The Mount’s subscriptions to the Bloomberg Terminals serve as a resource for both students and professors. It will enable students to become familiar with tools used in financial services, reinforcing classroom theory, while professors can use it to further their own educational research.

With contributions from other friends, Susan and another former Mount trustee, Peter Olympia, have also honored Joseph’s memory by funding an endowed scholarship. This scholarship, first unveiled at the end of 2022, is given annually to an outstanding senior from the Mount’s School of Business.
