Christopher Christiano of Waterbury, Conn., a Biology major at Mount Saint Mary College, was recently honored with the American Chemical Society (ACS) College Recognition Award during a ceremony at Bard College.

The award is given to students in the Mid-Hudson Region who show excellence in Chemistry and the other Natural Sciences and encourages further study in these fields. One student from each college or university in the Mid-Hudson region was presented with the recognition.

Christiano’s advisors at the Mount – Suparna Bhalla, associate Professor of Biology, and Lynn Maelia, professor of Chemistry – were invited to take part in the celebration.

“The Mount was extremely helpful in allowing me to earn this achievement, namely because of the science faculty,” Christiano noted. “The faculty make it their goal to help each student succeed [and] small class sizes definitely help to allow for a more personalized teaching style, which I believe makes it easy to do so well in these courses.”
