Student scholarship was the main course at the Mount Saint Mary College Scholarship Appreciation Brunch on October 16, which allowed the college community to thank the many generous donors who provide endowed scholarships for Mount students.

Nearly 80 scholarships were highlighted, including a dozen new scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year. New scholarship donor Jay Paige ’12 served as the event’s keynote speaker. Paige, a Mount Advancement Committee Member, recently established the There’s a Paige in Every Chapter Endowed Scholarship in memory of Frederick D. and Ava Marie Paige.

Jayden Racca of New Fairfield, Conn., an Advertising and Public Relations major, noted that he was able to achieve his dreams of a college education thanks to benefactors like Stephen and Christine McCarthy. The husband and wife established the Stephen M. McCarthy ’00 Scholarship in memory of their son, a graduate of the Mount’s Communications program. Racca, a junior, is the 2022-2023 recipient of this scholarship.

“I have worked so hard for the opportunity to compete in college athletics while furthering my education. With this scholarship, you are giving me the opportunity to continue along this path. Thank you so much,” he said.

Lotechine Brevil of Spring Valley, N.Y., one of three recipients of the Dominican Sisters of Hope Empowerment Scholarship, echoed Racca’s sentiments.

“The seed that you planted will allow me to be an impact in the lives of many,” she said. “Thank you is not enough to express my gratitude towards you, for being a part of my journey of becoming a nurse. Your generous donation toward my future career will not go unnoticed. May God continue to bless you tremendously.”
