Mount Saint Mary College recently launched a new interdisciplinary minor in Health, Physical Education, and Sports Studies.
Housed within the School of Business, the undergraduate program is designed to provide students with the foundational skills and practical knowledge needed to promote active lifestyles, wellness, and sports leadership in both professional and personal arenas.
The new minor is structured to complement a wide range of majors. It offers a comprehensive curriculum focusing on movement and activity, health education, sport administration, and sports law. Students enrolled in the program will explore the physiological and psychological foundations of wellness while developing critical skills in teamwork, communication, and sports facilities management. It supports the development of the knowledge and skills necessary to promote active lifestyles, health and wellness, and physical activity in both professional and personal contexts.
The program is highly versatile, preparing students for diverse career paths including coaching, athletic administration, health promotion, and recreation management.
Additionally, the minor provides a strategic pathway for aspiring educators. Students interested in becoming physical education teachers can take tailored coursework designed to help prepare them for a New York State (NYS) Physical Education certification pathway. This pathway is accessible following graduation and the attainment of their initial childhood or adolescence NYS certification.
The Mount is a private, co-educational liberal arts college located in Newburgh, New York. The college offers strong preparation for careers in healthcare, business, education, social services, and more, all within a vibrant, supportive campus community overlooking the Hudson River.
