The annual eight-week program pairs undergraduate students across multiple disciplines with faculty mentors for intensive, collaborative summer research projects.
A new cohort of Mount Saint Mary College student scholars began the annual Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program on Monday, May 18.
This year’s orientation blended academic goal-setting with lighthearted team-building exercises. Before diving into complex data collection and scientific methodologies, the 2026 cohort gathered on campus to build bonds and establish a collaborative foundation.
The competitive, eight-week SURE program pairs undergraduate students across all academic disciplines with faculty mentors to conduct intensive, collaborative scholarly research and creative projects.
Participating scholars receive a monetary stipend and free on-campus housing, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in an active multidisciplinary community. Over the course of the session, students convert their foundational classroom knowledge into tangible work experience by logging significant hours in chemistry labs, local archives, and surrounding Hudson Valley field locations.
SURE students present their research to the Mount campus over the course of two summer sessions and then again in the Fall at the annual SURE Symposium.
