Mount Saint Mary College recently introduced the new Bachelor of Science in Allied Health program, which is designed to prepare students for diverse clinical and administrative roles across the rapidly expanding healthcare sector.
As healthcare systems evolve, the demand for skilled professionals outside traditional nursing and bedside medicine continues to accelerate. According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, healthcare occupations account for substantial job growth nationwide. The Mount’s Allied Health curriculum directly addresses these workforce needs by combining foundational coursework in healthcare systems, medical ethics, policy, and cultural competency with specialized career tracks.
Students pursuing the B.S. in Allied Health choose from two distinct concentrations tailored to their career aspirations.
- Science and Health: Designed for students seeking entry into clinical technician roles or preparing for competitive graduate and professional programs, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, speech-language pathology, and clinical laboratory science.
- Healthcare Management and Administration: Focused on the operational, regulatory, and financial management of healthcare organizations. Students on this track also have the option to accelerate their education through the Mount's 4+1 BS/MBA program, earning both a bachelor's and a Master of Business Administration in five years.
The program integrates practical experience directly into the degree requirements. During their senior year, students complete a credit-bearing internship or advanced healthcare management seminar, providing direct exposure to regional hospitals, private practices, and biomedical organizations throughout the Hudson Valley.
Enrollment for the B.S. in Allied Health is now open for incoming and transfer students.
