Mount Saint Mary College Nursing students and Dutchess County Community college students aid in the Nuvance service project.

Mount Saint Mary College Nursing students collaborated with Nuvance Health hospital system recently on a community wellness project.

Students from the Mount’s Adult Health II course provided the community with free and easily accessible health screenings for diabetes, blood pressure, and high cholesterol. They also administered influenza and other vaccinations. In attendance were also Nursing students from Dutchess County Community College (DCCC). Almost 100 community members received free screenings.

“This was an excellent opportunity for the Nursing students to provide care to the community while utilizing their nursing skills,” said Lynette DeBellis, instructor of Nursing and Chair of the School of Nursing.

She added, “The health fair helped the community reach many uninsured or underinsured individuals who otherwise would not have had health care.”

This isn’t the first time the Mount has collaborated with Nuvance: Two years ago, the college partnered with Nuvance to supply COVID-19 vaccines to the frontline workers in Nuvance hospitals.
