Mount Saint Mary College President Dr. Jason N. Adsit

Mount Saint Mary College president Dr. Jason N. Adsit announced today that he has decided not to seek a renewal when his current contract expires at the end of the 2023-24 academic year.

“After much careful thought, Jason has made the decision that he would like to be closer to his family,” said Michael Horodyski, Chair of the college’s Board of Trustees. “I would like to be the first to thank Jason for his tireless work on behalf of Mount Saint Mary College. I wish him nothing but success and happiness in whatever the future may hold.”

Dr. Adsit will continue to lead the college throughout the 2023-24 school year. Over the next few months, the board will work to find a highly-qualified interim president for the Mount. The college plans to have an interim president overlap with Dr. Adsit for part of the academic year to support a smooth transition.

“For more than 60 years, Mount Saint Mary College has been a catalyst for change, preparing students to become skilled nurses, impactful educators, ethical business leaders, and service-minded members of their communities,” said Dr. Adsit. “It has been an incredible privilege to serve as president for the past five years, and I look forward to leading the Mount through the coming academic year. I am filled with gratitude for the remarkable Dominican Sisters who founded this institution, and for the dedication and character of the college’s board, administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends. I know that the Mount will continue to change lives for the better for many years to come.”

Dr. Adsit began his tenure as Mount Saint Mary College’s seventh full-time president on June 1, 2018. Since taking the helm, Dr. Adsit launched his vision for the college’s future: a comprehensive, institution-wide commitment to service-learning and community engagement. This vision of service has helped to steer the college’s path significantly, leading to innovations like the Desmond Center for Community Engagement and Wellness.

In addition, Dr. Adsit led the college through the entirety of the COVID-19 pandemic; oversaw development of the college’s 2020-2025 Strategic Plan; and put the local community at the forefront of the college’s work more than ever.

“We are extremely proud of the progress that we have made as an institution under Jason’s leadership,” said Horodyski. “On behalf of the Mount Saint Mary College Board of Trustees, I wholeheartedly thank Jason for his dedication, inspiration, and leadership over the last five years.”
