Mount Saint Mary College’s 47th Annual Golf and 14th Annual Tennis Invitational Tournament on Monday, June 2 earned approximately $120,000 for scholarships at the college.

Dozens of friends of the college came to support the Mount, with a total of 140 golf and 21 tennis players.

Held at The Powelton Club in Newburgh, N.Y. the event honored Elaine O’Grady ’89, MBA ’09, retired Vice President of Students at the Mount; and her husband, Andrew O’Grady ’88, LCSW-R, CEO at Mental Health America (golf) and Daniel J. Sheehan Jr., a local community leader and a longtime philanthropist (tennis).

All donations and net proceeds of the tournament will support the college’s Donor Scholarship Fund. This fund supports scholarships that are awarded based on high financial need and academic success. The Donor Scholarship Fund can be pivotal not only in attracting students to attend the Mount, but also ensuring diverse and talented students are recruited and retained. For them, this isn’t just higher education, it’s the opportunity to fulfill their dreams.

“Raising money for scholarships isn’t just a fundraising priority, it’s a lifeline for our students,” explained Khurana-Baugh.

At the Mount, nearly 88 percent of students depend on a combination of institutional aid, state and federal aid, and donor-funded scholarships to pursue their education. The college dedicates approximately $21 million – about 45 percent of its annual budget – to financial aid. One-third of Mount students are the first in their families to attend college, and many work to contribute to household income.
