Mount Saint Mary College raised $25,000 for student scholarships at its recent Summer Kick-Off Party at Billy Joe’s Ribworks.
The evening was made possible through the generosity of Joe Bonura, Sr. and Bill Kaplan, local philanthropists who covered the full cost of the event. As a result, every dollar raised through ticket sales went directly to scholarships for Mount students.
Attendees enjoyed a barbecue buffet, drinks, music, and views of the Hudson River.
Among those in attendance was senior Nursing student Karla Barrett, an adult learner, mother of two high school students, and scholarship recipient who hopes to work locally in labor and delivery after graduation.
The event’s impact grew further when John from Alexis Diner, winner of the $5,000 raffle prize, donated the entire amount back to the college for student scholarships.
“We are deeply grateful to Mr. Bonura and Mr. Kaplan for making this event possible, and to John for his extraordinary generosity,” said Nikki Khurana-Baugh, Vice President for Advancement. “Their support is helping students like Karla remain focused on completing their degrees and serving our community.”
Nearly 90 percent of Mount students receive financial assistance, making scholarships an essential part of helping students earn their degrees and pursue meaningful careers.
