The Desmond Center for Community Engagement and Wellness, a Mount Saint Mary College initiative, will be hosting a discussion on the health disparities of the LGBTQ community in Orange County on Wednesday, June 21 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event, part of the Desmond Center’s ongoing Health Equity Talks series, will take place in Guzman Hall on campus, 330 Powell Ave., Newburgh. It is free and open to the public, but space is limited and registration is required. To register, visit bit.ly/dccewtalks

In recognition of Pride month, the Desmond Center has partnered with Cross Valley Health and Medicine and the Orange County Human Rights Commission for this presentation. The talk will be led by Cross Valley Health and Medicine’s Christian Plaza, MBA MSN, FNP-C, PMHNP, and Mount alumnus.

Presentation will cover:

  • What preventative medicine looks like in LGBTQ care
  • Medical services or importance to the LGBTQ community
  • How to begin or improve engagement with the LGBTQ community
  • How to implement the learnings from the presentation into your work

In addition, the Mount invites the public to attend the Desmond Center’s grand opening on Thursday, June 15 at 5:30 p.m. to tour the building and learn more about the Desmond Center and what it offers to the community. To RSVP, visit www.msmc.edu/desmondopening
