Mount Saint Mary College’s Collaborative for Equity in Literacy Learning (CELL) will present a workshop for educators on the Image Making literacy method from Monday, August 12 to Friday, August 16.

The sessions run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day in the Fluet Family Hudson Hall Auditorium at the Mount’s campus. The workshop fee includes all art materials used during the institute, as well as instructional materials and posters.

Register online at www.msmc.edu/imagemaking. The deadline for registration is Thursday, July 11.

Image Making is an alternative approach to teaching writing and strengthening reading. The process uses picture books as mentor texts to help teach the art of writing. Students create carefully crafted picture books, often tied to the science or social studies curriculum, using their own portfolio of hand-painted papers. The art always precedes the writing.

This year’s workshop will focus on reconstructing family immigration stories and is ideal for use with students in grades 2 to 12. No art experience is necessary.

The cost for the workshop is $1,285. Graduate credit is available for an additional fee. Contact CELL@msmc.edu or call 845-569-3431 for more information and registration options.
