Grace Sanchez is doubling down on her commitment to Newburgh’s next generation.

The owner of local staple Hudson Naturals recently announced plans to expand the Lucy Delgadillo Memorial Scholarship at Mount Saint Mary College, by adding another scholarship award for a second student. Furthermore, her ultimate goal is to increase the scholarship to five awarded per year.

Originally established by Sanchez in September of 2024, the scholarship was created in honor of her late sister, Lucy Delgadillo, to serve as a permanent investment in the local community.

“At Hudson Naturals, caring for people and caring for our community are at the heart of everything we do,” Sanchez said. “Mount Saint Mary College has served as an educational anchor in Newburgh for more than 60 years. Supporting students at the Mount is not just a philanthropic commitment; it is an investment in the future of the Hudson Valley.”

She added, “Education has the power to transform lives. Together, we are helping opportunity take root and grow.”

Grace Sanchez, a Newburgh entrepreneur and owner of local staple Hudson Naturals, announced she is doubling her investment in the Lucy Delgadillo Memorial Scholarship at the Mount to expand opportunities for City of Newburgh students.

The investment is already creating vital pathways for students from the City of Newburgh. By focusing on local students with significant financial barriers, the scholarship strengthens the economic mobility and resilience of the region.

“Grace Sanchez has been an incredibly thoughtful donor and partner to the Mount,” said Nikki Khurana-Baugh, Vice President for Advancement at Mount Saint Mary College. “Her commitment to Newburgh and her belief in the transformative power of education will create vital pathways for our students to succeed and lead in their own communities.”

The Lucy Delgadillo Memorial Scholarship is uniquely structured to support students through their entire academic journey. The funds are currently given to one student per academic year through two $2,500 awards, one for the spring semester and one for the fall.

Key criteria for the scholarship include:

  • Geographic focus: Preferred for students residing in the City of Newburgh; eligible Orange County residents may be considered if no city applicants are found.
  • Academic continuity: The award is renewable until the recipient earns their bachelor’s degree (up to three renewal years).
  • Financial need: Candidates must demonstrate need through the FAFSA equivalent to the award amount.
