Mount Saint Mary College Nursing students added another tool to their life-saving repertoire recently at a training session for administering naloxone, an anti-opioid overdose medicine.

The event was an initiative of the Mount’s Student Nurses Association (SNA) and hosted by Nursing major Ryan Manuelian of Staten Island, N.Y.

Naloxone comes in the form of a nasal spray or a needle. It temporarily reverses the effects of opioids, buying caregivers more time to seek medical attention in the event of an overdose.

To date, about 300 Mount students and faculty have been certified in the use of the medicine over the course of several such trainings at the college.
