Mount Saint Mary College students gathered in the Hudson auditorium to hear from guest speaker Ayannah Johnson, about the importance of showing up for oneself through mindful communication.

Students at Mount Saint Mary College heard from guest speaker Ayannah Johnson about the importance of self-advocacy on Thursday, March 23, during her presentation “Sorry Not Sorry.”

The event was organized by the Mount’s Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) and Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) Leadership Council.

Johnson explained how the word “sorry” is sometimes overused and can result in a person having less confidence in their ideas or abilities.

To counter this, Johnson shared with students some ways they can stop using the word “sorry” out of obligation, in order to better advocate for themselves in all situations, and how to evaluate when an apology is truly necessary.
