Minor in Sports and Exercise Psychology
Being a team player starts with understanding the psychological principles behind performance and well-being in athletes, and other sports participants, at all levels. If you want to be a coach, personal trainer, psychologist, physical therapist, or a similar field, a minor in Sports and Exercise Psychology may be right for you.
As a Sports and Exercise Psychology minor, you’ll gain the foundational skills you need to better understand the impact of mental health on sports performance. You’ll also gain an understanding of performance psychology for students in other fields in the sport and exercise world.

A minor in Sports and Exercise Psychology pairs well with the Psychology, Exercise Science, and Sports Management majors, but it can be declared with any major! The 18 required credits fit well into most major’s elective courses.
Five courses are required for the minor (Sports Psychology, Principles and Techniques of Interviewing and Counseling, Communicating with Patients & Professionals, Care and Prevention in Athletic Injury, and Coaching Skills), as well as two electives. It is also recommended that students take Introduction to Exercise Science.
