Mount Saint Mary College recently hosted a celebration of Our Lady of Guadeloupe, with a special Mass and a lunch of traditional Latin American food.
Celebrated by Fr. Gregoire Fluet, Vice President for Mission and Ministry, the Mass centered around a striking portrait of Our Lady, adorned with a brilliant bouquet of red roses.
Following the liturgy, students, faculty, and staff gathered for a festive reception featuring traditional Latin American cuisine, sharing fellowship and flavor in honor of the holiday.
The feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe is celebrated on December 12.
Mary, Mother of God, is the Patron Saint of Mexico and one of the country’s most respected religious figures. According to Catholic tradition, in the 1500s, she appeared to St. Juan Diego in Mexico City and requested that a church be built at Tepeyac Hill.
The celebration was spearheaded by the college’s Catholic and Dominican Institute, the Dominican Scholars of Hope, and the Dominican Sisters of Hope Campus Ministry.
