Dylan Weit Lane of Newburgh, N.Y. received her diploma from her mother, May Weit, at Mount Saint Mary College’s 62nd annual Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 17.
When Dylan Weit Lane of Newburgh, N.Y. and Brooke Mulqueen of Montgomery, N.Y. graduated from Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday, May 17, they received their diplomas from some very familiar faces.
Lane, a Mathematics major on the Education track, received her diploma from her mother, Amy Weit. Weit serves as director of Residence Life at the Mount.
“I’m very, very proud of her,” Weit said. “It’s exciting to see her graduate. She’s a great student!”
Due to Weit’s job requirements, she and her family have lived on campus since she began at the Mount more than a decade ago. One might think that could take the fun out of living on campus for Lane, but she says it’s just the opposite.
“I’ve lived here [at the Mount] for a long as I can remember,” she explained. “But even though I grew up here, living on campus with my friends has given me the college experience I wanted.”
Lane is looking forward to a career in teaching: “I always loved school,” she said. “School was my safe place. I was always excited to go, so I wanted to give my students the same experience.”
She added that she can’t wait to have her only classroom – that is, if she doesn’t decide to go down a different career path instead. As it turns out, Lane passed the firefighter exam before graduation. But either way, she’s looking forward to serving the public.

Brooke Mulqueen, a Visual Communication – Graphic Design major, received her diploma from her father, John Mulqueen, a member of the Mount’s Facilities Department.
As she walked in the procession to the Commencement ceremony on May 17, Mulqueen was all smiles: “This is awesome!” she said. “I’m so happy.”
Though only joining the program in her junior year, Mulqueen thrived as a Graphic Design major. Not only has she frequented the college’s Dean’s List, but she’s also taken part in Knight Radio, the college’s radio station. And during her last semester, she participated in Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh’s contest to design the official t-shirt for their Walk for Housing event, where her design was named runner-up.
Mulqueen thanked her professors at the Mount for helping her to become the success she is today, including Chris Neyen, associate professor of Art and Graphic Design and Chair of the Division of Communication, Art, and Digital Media (CADM).
“Professor Neyen has always been there for everybody, wanting to build them up,” said Mulqueen. “He’s always been super positive, and you can go to him with anything.”
