Christopher Neyen, associate professor of Art and Graphic Design and Director of the Communication, Art, and Digital Media (CADM) program at Mount Saint Mary College, is preparing for two public art events in the Hudson Valley this October.

A multidisciplinary artist and designer, Neyen is exhibiting two paintings in Newburgh and will participate in a large-scale community printmaking event in Beacon.

“The Shape of Memory”

Neyen will exhibit two paintings in the group exhibition “The Shape of Memory” at the Bank Art Gallery in Newburgh, N.Y. The exhibition explores time, emotion, and reflection through a powerful collection of painting, sculpture, and mixed media. The show features works by regional and international artists. Neyen’s featured works, both oil paintings, are “The Other Side of the Sky” and “Standing on the Mountain.”

The show runs from October 17 to December 13 at Bank Art Gallery, 94 Broadway, Newburgh. The opening reception will be held on Friday, October 17, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Third Annual Community Print and Steamroll Event

In Beacon, Neyen is participating in the Third Annual Community Print and Steamroll event, which he is also coordinating. This is his second year creating a giant wood carving for the occasion.

Titled “Roll Out,” the free event is a community printmaking collective committed to creativity, education, and printmaking for all. Steamroll will take place on Saturday, October 18, from noon to 5 p.m., with a rain date of October 19, at The Yard, 4 Hanna Lane, Beacon.

The event includes:

  • Steamroll printing of more than 20 giant woodcarvings from Hudson Valley artists and school groups.
  • Steamroll printing of collaborative linocuts from Beacon Public School groups.
  • A portable press printing 2’x 2’ carvings from local artists and free community workshops.
  • Pop-up printmaking studios with activities for all ages.
