The Mount Saint Mary College Men’s Soccer program collected more than 100 food items and other necessities on Saturday, October 4 to donate to Fareground, a Hudson Valley non-profit that helps those in need.
The drive was held during the Soccer program’s alumni game and a match against Purchase College, a SUNY school. The initiative was spearheaded by Head Coach Kevin Longacre.
“My wife and I have worked with Fareground before, and I felt like this would be a perfect opportunity for the soccer program to give back,” said Longacre. “We were thrilled by the response. I had my Kia Telluride full when I dropped the items off.”
The collected items went beyond food, and included crucial necessities like diapers, toothbrushes, and hygiene products.
The effort was a true program-wide event, receiving significant participation from returning alumni, current players, and their families.
“It was great to see the alumni really help out; they brought quite a few donations,” Longacre noted. “It shows that when those guys come back, they still very much care about the Mount Soccer program and were more than willing to help out our local community.”
