For the Mount Saint Mary College community, the holiday season truly began on the evening of December 7, when the Chapel of the Most Holy Rosary filled with the sound of song and the glow of candlelight.

Marking the return of a beloved tradition that dates back to 1974, the annual Christmas Vespers: An Evening of Lessons and Carols brought students, faculty, alumni, and neighbors together to celebrate the season. The service offered a moment of reflection and joy amidst the December bustle.

The evening featured a selection of scripture readings intermingled with traditional carols, including the spirited “Angels We Have Heard on High.” But the most poignant moment arrived toward the end of the service. As the lights in the chapel were dimmed, the space was illuminated solely by the flickering warmth of candles held by the attendees.

In that soft glow, the collective voice of the Mount community rose together to sing “Silent Night,” continuing the decades-long legacy of welcoming Christmas at the Mount.
