Why choose the Mount's game development program?
- What better way to learn about creating games than by making one of your own? You will design, build, and test 2-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) games using computer programming languages and modern software engineering practices, culminating in designing an original game from start to finish during your senior year.
- Being a short train ride to New York City's major tech and gaming studios is just one of the many advantages of the Mount's location. Game Development majors at the Mount will also benefit from the Hudson Valley, and in particular Newburgh and Beacon - a hotbed for the professional arts.
- Combine technical computing skills with artistic design, narrative writing, logic, and project management to become a versatile team leader in the interactive media industry.
- As a Game Development major, you can join one of the Mount's video game clubs to connect with fellow gammers, play a variety of games on a weekly basis, and even compete in campus-wide tournaments for prizes.
Esteban Meza"The assignments my professors have given me have helped me expand more on creative freedom, improve upon my work, and push me past what I thought I was capable of."

What to expect as a Game Development Major
Curriculum Overview
- Requirements: The Game Development program consists of 45 required credits in Game Development with a required 2.0 GPA or higher. Your courses will include cybersecurity, web programming, networking, game design and development, data structures, digital animation, and more.
- Timeline: First year students will start with creating game concepts, evaluating games, game testing, and even create a prototype game in their first class. Students will then learn to design and develop a game by learning advanced programming languages before enrolling in a two semester game design and development seminar that will help that student create and market their final products.
- Senior Seminar : During your senior year, you will enroll in a two-semester Game Design and Development Seminar where you will design, develop, and implement a complete game experience. You can tailor your game for your specific career goals by targeting traditional desktop systems, mobile devices, virtual reality (VR), interactive websites, social media, interactive art, digital advertising, or interactive cinema.

"Mini-Mount: MSMC in 2D"
Did you know Mount Saint Mary College has its very own video game created entirely by students?
Developed during the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience, students Ennis Cruz and Leandro Ortiz designed and programmed "Mini-Mount - MSMC in 2D" under the guidance of Lee Fothergill, professor of Mathematics. "Mini-Mount" serves as both an interactive digital campus map and retro-inspired arcade hub. Players explore pixelated versions of iconic MSMC landmarks and compete in custom mini-games tied to real campus locations. Step into the boots of Mack the Knight and explore campus in 2D!
