Allied Health Concentrations
Science & Health offers a rigorous pathway for students seeking graduate study in clinical fields and/or a robust alternative for those who are interested in healthcare but not necessarily nursing or bedside medicine.
Healthcare Management & Administration focuses on the business and operational side of health organizations. This pathway prepares business professionals who are trained to specialize in the specific business, financial, and operational needs of the healthcare industry.

What to Expect as an Allied Health Student
Curriculum Overview
Requirements: The Allied Health program consists of 19 required foundational core credits, 12-13 required support credits, and at least 24 credits in the concentration of your choosing. Depending on your concentration, your curriculum may also include additional Chemistry, Psychology, or Healthcare Management courses. If you’re interested in the Healthcare Management 4+1 BS/MBA program you must also complete additional foundational courses during your undergraduate studies.
Timeline: Your studies will begin with foundational courses in your freshman year, which will help guide the direction you want your degree to take. From here, you will add support and concentration based courses.
Internships: During your senior year, an internship is woven into your coursework to gain real-world industry experience. Students may also replace their internship with a Healthcare Management Seminar.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. healthcare system is facing a “significant skill shift,” where three out of every four jobs added to the economy are in healthcare. With the assistance of the Mount’s Center for Academic and Career Services (CACS) you can feel prepared for your future with internship opportunities woven into your curriculum or by attending career readiness events throughout your time in college and even after graduation.
Mount Allied Health majors are prepared for a variety of graduate school and career opportunities including:
- Healthcare administrator or executive in hospitals, medical practices, veterinary practices, dental practices, physical/occupational therapy offices, or pharmaceutical/biomedical corporation and business settings.
- Dietitian or Nutritionist
- Health Information Technician
- Clinical Research Coordinator
- Public Health Educator
- Radiological Technologist
- Graduate school programs, including Physician’s Assistant, Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Genetic Counseling, Speech-Language Pathology, Clinical Laboratory Science, and more.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, all students in the Allied Health program will be required to choose the Science & Health or Healthcare Management & Administration concentration by their sophomore year.
Which concentration you choose will depend on what your career aspirations are. The Science & Health concentration is for students who are interested in careers on the “patient side” of healthcare, and/or are interested in continuing their studies in medical school or health based graduate degree. This concentration is also another option for students who are interested in the college’s Nursing or Biology programs, but would like to better tailor their degree towards their interests. The Healthcare Management & Administration concentration is geared for those interested in the “business side” of healthcare operations.
The Mount’s Nursing major prepares students to become registered nurses through specialized coursework and clinical rotations. Upon passing the NCLEX-RN licensing exam, nurses provide direct patient care. The Allied Health major provides a broader foundation in healthcare and the sciences, preparing graduates for a variety of healthcare careers or graduate and professional programs.
