Alumni from Mount Saint Mary College’s Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) recently returned to their alma mater to mentor the next generation of HEOP students.
The event highlighted the program’s ongoing mission to provide comprehensive academic and financial support to New York State residents who demonstrate the aptitude for college success, but face educational and economic challenges.
The gathering featured several notable guests, including City of Newburgh Mayor Torrance Harvey, a 2003 graduate of the Mount, and Maxine E. Lindsay-Shillingford ’98 MSN ’23. Lindsay-Shillingford, a highly decorated U.S. Army Combat Veteran and experienced nurse leader, joined the students to share insights from her distinguished career in healthcare and military service.
Lindsay-Shillingford will deliver the keynote address to graduating Master’s degree students at the 63rd Annual Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 15.
HEOP at the Mount serves as a vital bridge for students, offering resources such as a pre-freshman summer program, dedicated counseling, and supplemental tutoring. These programs ensure that students have the foundation necessary to excel in their chosen fields.
