Mount Saint Mary College recently served as the hub for athletic excellence and student advocacy, hosting the 2nd annual Student-Athlete Leadership Summit on Monday, April 20.
The regional event brought together approximately 160 participants, including student-athletes, coaches, and administrators from 28 schools across NYSPHSAA.
The summit, themed “Fostering Student-Athlete Growth and Leadership,” was a collaborative effort presented by Sections 1 and 9, the Mid-Hudson School Study Council, and Mount Saint Mary College. The day was dedicated to amplifying the student voice and providing young athletes with the tools necessary to lead both on the field and within their school communities.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) took center stage during the proceedings. Composed of student-athletes who provide vital insight into the athletic experience, SAAC serves as a bridge between the student body and school administrations. Members offer input on policies, initiatives, and the overall culture of athletic programs, ensuring that the student perspective remains a priority in decision-making processes.
Throughout the day, attendees participated in workshops and presentations led by seasoned athletic directors and student-athlete peers. Key sessions focused on harnessing leadership skills, team development, and the launch of future initiatives, such as the 2026 Student-Athlete Athletic Leadership Council. These councils are designed to bring together leaders from all athletic programs to contribute to the continued growth and success of their respective districts.
