Stephanie Alvarado looking toward the horizon.

Mount Saint Mary College hosted a trio of virtual poetry workshops for students, faculty, and staff to celebrate Poetry Month.

"Poetry for the People," part of the college's Poetry Month Artist Series, was presented by the Latin Student Union and the Division of Arts and Letters. The sessions were hosted by Stephanie Alvarado, a multidisciplinary artist, archivist, and cultural worker.

Throughout each of the workshops, participants wrote about and shared their experiences with specific topics, including mental health, art making, politics, and community building.

Born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y. by way of Guayaquil, Ecuador, Alvarado has worked as an academic in libraries and archives for 15 years. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Literary Freedom Project. Alvarado received her bachelor's degree from NYU in Psychology, Latino Studies, and Public Policy, and a master's degree in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Emory University.
